Her father died when she was eight years old in a terrible accident. Shortly after, her younger sister and their mother moved to England for a fresh start. Her mother had admired the place in her younger years and always wished to live in a wizarding community.
Her mother got a job at the Ministry in London and met a young man there. They were married within the year and had a son just before he divorced her and decided to move away with a younger woman.

Kaori rushed down the hall to her potions class. It wasn't her favorite, but it wasn't her least favorite either. She at least found it interesting to see what happens when mixing different natural ingredients. Though everyone was already in their seats by the time she arrived to class, she was just a minute from being late and therefore in the clear.
She sat in her desk not a moment before the professor stormed in, seeming in an unusually bad mood. Someone looks like they've been dumped, she thought to herself, picturing the look on the professor's face if only she were to say it outloud.
